Soffit Slab

Product

Soffit slab consists of a non-combustible rigid Rockwool board with a variety of non-combustible facings and is particularly suited for providing cost effective fire resistance, thermal insulation and acoustic absorption to concrete car park soffits. Soffit slab is independently tested and assessed to provide fire protection to reinforced concrete floors slabs.

Features and benefits

Fire performance

Soffit slab has been independently tested for fire resistance to EN 1363-1 standard and can provide up to 4 hours  soffit protection to 150mm thick reinforced concrete.

Rockwool Soffit Slab is non-combustible (as defined in UK Building Regulations) and achieve a reaction-to-fire classification of A1, as defined in BS EN 13501-1. All facing options- including the Promat PROMATECT ® HD board offered with the Hi-Impact Soffit Slab - are also non combustible and achieve A1 reaction to fire classification.

Thermal

A typical construction comprising of a 150mm concrete floor slab, underlined with 130mm thick Soffit Slab would achieve U-Values consistent with current thermal requirements.  The thermal conductivity of Soffit Slab insulation is 0.034W/m²K.

 Soffit Slab thickness   U-value
 130mm  0.25 W/m²K
 160mm  0.20W/m²K

Facings

Soffit slab is available in a range of facings for aesthetics and durability:

  • Plain (un-faced)
  • Aluminium foil
  • White tissue
  • Black tissue
  • Hi-Impact (featuring Promat PROMATECT ® HD board)

Promat PROMATECT ®  HD board is 6mm thick impact resistance calcium silicate board.  The board is off-white in colour, and is able to be site decorated.

Sustainability

Relying on entrapped air for its thermal properties, Rockwool insulation does not contain (and has never contained) gases that have Ozone Depleting Potential (ODP) or Global Warming Potential (GWP). Rockwool therefore complies with the relatively modest threshold of GWP<5 included in documents such as the Code for Sustainable Homes.

Rockwool Ltd is increasingly involved in recycling waste Rockwool material generated during installation or disposal at end of life, and has a recycling scheme that is recognised by WRAP and the Environment Agency. We are happy to discuss the individual requirements of contractors and users considering returning Rockwool materials to our factory for recycling.
